MEET THE TEAM

Dr. Frank Harris III

DIRECTOR

Dr. Frank Harris III is a professor of postsecondary education and co-director of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab at San Diego State University (SDSU).  He has also served as SDSU’s faculty athletics representative since 2021. From 2022-2024 he served as associate dean of Diversity Equity and Inclusion in SDSU’s College of Education.

Dr. Marissa C. Vasquez

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Dr. Marissa C. Vasquez is an associate professor of postsecondary educational leadership and the associate director of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL) at San Diego State University (SDSU). Broadly, her research seeks to better understand the experiences, factors, and conditions that facilitate success among historically marginalized and underserved students, particularly community college and transfer students.

DR. MELISSA ABEYTA

DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL CONSORTIUM ON COLLEGE MEN OF COLOR (NCCMC)

Dr. Melissa Abeyta is the Director of the National Consortium on College Men of Color (NCCMC). As a practitioner-scholar her research revolves around using an anti-deficit lens that explores the experiences of formerly incarcerated students in higher education. Dr. Abeyta’s professional experience includes working for an equity assessment lab that conducted qualitative research and assessment for regional and national projects.

Danielle Huddlestun

Danielle (she/her/hers) is a student in the Joint Doctoral Program with San Diego State University and Claremont Graduate University. She identifies as a first-generation college graduate from Sacramento, California. Prior to being a doctoral student, Danielle worked in higher education as an academic advisor. This work experience, as well as an interest in interrogating her own experiences as a student, sparked Danielle’s passion for educational research. Through her work, Danielle’s aim is to foster democratic and liberatory school communities for students.
